It is located in the village of Evenes, along the northern shore of the Ofotfjorden. The church is part of the Evenes parish in the Ofoten deanery in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white wooden church was built in 1800 to replace an earlier church on the same site. The site has been home to a church since the year 1250 when Håkon Håkonson established a church in Ofoten. The present church is built in a Danish manor style with a Mansard roof.
